And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:2-5.
We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2.
I’ve never completely understood any Scripture verses speaking of the nations raging until today. We see nations and people today conspiring for power and for what? In our chapter, Psalm 2, David knows all about people and nations conspiring for power over others. Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? v. 1. And yet he goes on to prophesy about the end times when the conspiring and plotting will be against God. The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” v. 2, 3. What does your own heart tell you about God as you look at the rulers of this world past and present? What does God say? I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain. v. 6. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have become your Father.” Hebrews 1:3-5…Psalm 2:7. What human ruler of men, past or present has ever provided purification for our sins? Blessed are all who take refuge in him. v. 12. We have God’s promises. I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. v. 8. It may sound harsh in this Psalm, but the fulfillment…But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” Hebrews 1:8-9.
As we become witnesses of the injustices and crimes of this world of men, can we begin to see and appreciate the beauty that God created and sustains? In seeing the majesty and beauty and diversity of creation can we trust the Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit? Nations can rise in anger and fall away. They do great harm while in power over men. We can rejoice now in the hope of the glory of our God because His way is good. He will never sin against us. What nation or king can ever claim that? When the dust settles after all the rebellions of mankind what will be left? Our refuge and our hope. God’s love for us bringing us out of the darkness of all that is harmful and into His beautiful Light. Can you imagine what that will be like for all of us? Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.
