He who forms the mountains, creates the wind, and reveals his thoughts to man, he who turns dawn to darkness, and treads the high places of the earth – the Lord God Almighty is his name. Amos 4:13. 

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. Isaiah 43:1.

By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me – a prayer to the God of my life. Psalm 42:8.

I don’t know about you, but there are mornings like yesterday when I am aware of unease and longing. I feel adrift and it takes awhile to find my bearings. I am learning to be still and wait in trust because I won’t find what I need in the machinations of this world. And then there are mornings like this morning when my heart sings at God’s word…His thoughts to us…and He reminds me I am His and He is mine and I know I am found. 

Reading our chapter, Job 37, I can well imagine Elihu is telling Job and the 3 friends to listen! I can imagine the sound of thunder rumbling in the distance Elihu is describing. Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice, to the rumbling that comes from his mouth. He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth…After that comes the sound of his roar; he thunders with his majestic voice…When his voice resounds, he holds nothing back…God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding…Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders…v. 2, 3, 4, 5, 14. I can just see the men stopping and looking to the distance with the darkening skies and the rumble of thunder. And then the 4 men looking at one another…Tell us what we should say to him; we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness…in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress…Therefore, people revere him, for he does not have regard for all the wise in heart…v. 19, 23, 24. 

We think we are so wise and yet we cannot create thunder, lightning, rain, snow, dust, wisdom, love, forgiveness. There is One who can and does. He tells us we are His and we are loved. It helps to stop looking at all of the hate in this world and instead look to our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit – and let Him teach us His way of Love for Him and for one another. As Elihu said, we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness…but we can turn to the light of God’s love and know we are in His care and His will for all of creation. When I think of all the Sins of this world through all the ages of mankind, I see emptiness. Nothingness. Thank God that is not all there is. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13. Remember the sound of thunder, the sound of rain…the quiet of snowfall…the laugh of children…remember and give thanks to our Creator God who IS Love. He redeems us out of the emptiness and nothingness of Sin and we can breathe and laugh and dance and be with our Creator God who loves us well. Thank You, Lord. We are never lost when we are with You. And being with our Creator God is how we begin to trust. A wonderful place to be…trusting our Creator God for all things.
