Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8.
I was struck in reading our chapter, Job 33, by the way in which Elihu speaks. I am about to open my mouth; my words are on the tip of my tongue…v. 2. He takes awhile to speak the words he longs to say and in our fast paced world it seems so foreign. But you have said in my hearing – I heard the very words – …v. 9. He goes on to repeat what Job had said and continues, But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than any mortal. Why do you complain to him that he responds to no one’s words?…For God does speak – now one way, now another – though no one perceives it…In a dream, in a vision of the night…Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain…Yet if there is an angel at their side…then that person can pray to God and find favor with him…v. 13, 14, 15, 19, 23, 26. He goes on to say he, Elihu, will teach Job wisdom, v. 33.
We’ve been reading 33 chapters of Job and I can’t help but wonder did Job bring everything to God in prayer and supplication to draw near to God Himself? He is saying a lot of words to the men listening and they are saying a lot of words to Job and each other. Through all of these chapters of words did Job at any point long to sit in quiet and be with God? There is such a difference in what we think about God – Father, Son, Spirit – and a relationship with God. Choose closeness with God. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. How? Ask. I had read the Bible several times, I have felt close to God as a child and cling to that still. Yet, when I asked Him to help me draw near to Him, to know Him…He was there. Gently, patiently, lovingly, with comfort, with peace in Him which is where all comfort, peace and love comes from. Our Good is in our God who loves us. Draw near and choose closeness with God and begin a lifelong adventure unto eternity with our Creator God. We are His…He is ours. He is here. Always. Are we?
