The Things That Matter: Trusting God

Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.Hebrews 6:17-20.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.Psalm 23:1.

This morning I came to God in prayer frustrated over many things. When I am that frustrated, every problem becomes bigger and expands outward to include the world and everything in it. I am frustrated I can’t let go of the frustration over problems that don’t go away with prayer. He told me to lay the burdens down. Come to Him. He told me He would tell me the most important things…trusting Him. The beauty of the simplicity of that reality and all it encompasses helps me regain my bearings. He is worthy. I trust Him.

In our chapter, Job 26, Job responds to Bildad by asking how he has helped anyone, not just Job but anyone. What advice you have offered to one without wisdom! And what great insight youhave displayed!v. 3, 4. Wisdom. A beautiful word. Do we think wisdom begins in us? I am finding more and more that my comfort in my very soul resides in the One who is Wisdom. Job goes on to describe the wonders God does…He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing. v. 7. I could stay in that verse forever. Job didn’t have the advantage of satellite images of space or the view from the Moon; I can’t help but see images of our planet held in the vast blackness of space and wonder that it stays held…that the planets orbit our Sun that is so far away and that the Sun orbits in our galaxy. The realm of the dead is naked before God; Destruction lies uncovered. v. 6. Have we considered the end of ourselves? The beginning and everything in between? Our Creator God has.

The things that matter? Trusting God – Father, Son, Spirit. We walk on a planet suspended over nothing. We didn’t create our home. Randomness is mathematically impossible. I don’t have wisdom. I am amazed and undone in gratefulness for the One who is wisdom. What has been promised? God’s Covenant of faithful Love, given to Abraham, to the Children of Israel, to you and me in the blood Jesus shed for us. The thing that matters most – His faithfulness we can trust.
