The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. Matthew 13:44-46.
For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. Psalm 48:14.
In our chapter, Job 21, Job answers Zophar. In many ways, these conversations remind me of us today. Someone speaks, we feel compelled to answer and our understanding is not complete. In that attitude Job says, Listen carefully to my words; let this be the consolation you give me. Bear with me while I speak, and after I have spoken, mock on. v. 2, 3. Does that not sound like today? And then Job asks, Is my complaint directed to a human being? Look at me and be appalled; clap your hand over your mouth. v. 4, 5. Job’s friends are inferring to him that he is wicked; else why the calamities that have befallen him. Job asks questions we all ask about the wicked in our own times…Why do the wicked live on…Their homes are safe and free from fear; the rod of God is not on them…They spend their years in prosperity and go down to the grave in peace…Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What would we gain by praying to him?…v. 7, 9, 13, 15. It’s so easy to be confused by the realities of this world played out. Then Job affirms, Yet how often is the lamp of the wicked snuffed out? How often does calamity come upon them, the fate God allots in his anger? It is said “God stores up the punishment of the wicked for their children.” Let him repay the wicked, so that they themselves will experience it! v. 17, 19. Around and around and does that not sound like conversations we have brought to God in prayer? I have. I don’t understand why those who do evil are not stopped. Then Job asks, Can anyone teach knowledge to God, since he judges even the highest? v. 22. Do my prayers sound like I am trying to teach God? Does this blog sound like I am trying to teach you?
And then I go to God in prayer. With Him in prayer I find peace. Not my peace but the peace of God – Father, Son, Spirit. When I thank God for His love and His truth, I am taken to a place of such beauty my soul can only magnify God in thanks. My hope is in my Creator God because His truth is the only thing that makes sense to me. This world is irrational and God’s truth stands. For this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end. The world cannot see Him. The world rejects His truth for power and glory the world makes. The world’s glory is empty and violent. Is it any wonder the earth and the heavens will be shaken? Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Ephesians 5:14-17. God’s truth is our hope. A treasure beyond anything this world can comprehend. Can anyone teach knowledge to God? How about letting Him guide us faithfully to His truth. He’s here. Always. The more you study God’s word with His help, the more sense His love makes and it is so Good!
