God Is More

To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:1-4.

I read the above Scripture referenced in The Chosen 40 Days with Jesus Book Three Day 40. They were going deeper into the story of Jesus walking on the water to the disciples and I loved this: (When they had crossed over. Turns out that phrase has a double meaning because not only did they make it to the other side of the lake, they had finally made it to the other side of unbelief. Which means that even though they’d witnessed many miracles, this was the first time they got to experience the power of God unencumbered by their own doubt.)

What preconceptions about God do we hold dear that will lead us away from knowing God? The disciples were not prepared to witness Jesus walking on stormy water because they had never experienced that…until they did. Why would we be surprised that God can walk on the very water He created? That He can still the winds that He created? That He can work with our hearts in language we can understand. To know God is to know His Love. Unencumbered by our own doubt when we let go and trust Him. God is more.

Having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires…our chapter today, 2 Chronicles 23, our world today.

It had gotten so bad in Jerusalem under the rule of Athaliah that all the people went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. v. 17. A temple of Baal stood in Jerusalem. Jehoiada the priest had to ensure that the king sitting on the throne of David was brought in safely and so the priests and the commanders of units of hundreds were prepared to protect the child Joash, the rightful heir, v. 1-21. Can you imagine living in those times? We can read about it but can you imagine living it? Remember this was written as history for the exiled returning to Judah. This was history for them as well.

Ancestry.com…..if we search our ancestry all the way to the beginning and through to today we find our Creator God doing what we do not expect. Our history shows our misunderstanding of all God is. God is so much more!
