First Seek the Lord

Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Psalm 43:3.

I read the above verse in Hearing God by Dallas Willard after reading our chapter, 2 Chronicles 18, and yet, that verse is what my heart was shouting for. The whole stage set forth in this chapter was one of creepiness and deceit. We are reminded of Ahab, king of Israel, with whom Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, has aligned himself. He is aligned through marriage between his son and Ahab’s daughter; he is aligned by being with Ahab in the folly of listening to false voices. It was curious to me that twice Ahab asked, “Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I not?” v. 5, 14. Ahab’s “prophets”, like court jesters, are falling over themselves to tell Ahab what he wants to hear. And then, Micaiah, God’s prophet seems to agree with the false prophets of Ahab right up until he tells him, “Therefore, hear the word of the Lord…” v. 18-27. The folly continues. The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will enter the battle in disguise, but you wear your royal robes.” v. 29. Really? In all of this, did Jehoshaphat not see what was right before him? The absurdity and folly of life without God. We can’t see because we are immersed in this life filled with deception.

God’s prophet told Ahab he would die and he died.

2 Chronicles is the story of Judah told to a people who have returned to Judah after being exiled. Israel is long gone from the stage but the lessons remain for all of us. People come and go…kingdoms come and go…nations come and go.

Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Words to truly live by. God – Father, Son, Spirit – will never lie to you. He loves you too much. The light of His Love guides us when we turn to Him. We may be lost in the folly of sins we cannot fully understand or see but we are never lost to God. Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 43:5. The god of this world, the father of lies, John 8:44, surrounds us with deception in his hate for all God is. That’s his folly. We have a Savior and in His Love He will never leave us or forsake us. Put your hope in Him. His truth is so beautiful and clear that your journey with Him will guide you in His Peace as you walk with Him in His love for you and for all of us. Thank You, Lord, for You! Help us as we seek You to keep our eyes on You and the light of Your Truth and Love. Help us see the folly of lies fall away as we gaze at You.
