This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us. He has given us of his Spirit. 1 John 4:9, 13.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, and a light on my path. Psalm 119:105.
In our chapter, 2 Chronicles 9, we can read of the splendor and beauty and wealth surrounding Solomon. It’s pretty amazing. We can read how overwhelmed a Queen was when she came to discover for herself if the reports of Solomon’s wisdom were true. v. 1-12. Wisdom was given to Solomon by God when he asked for wisdom to rule God’s people. I couldn’t help but contrast David’s heart for God which led David all of his life, with the wisdom and wealth of Solomon that did not help him stay faithful to God. Wisdom is not ours. Wealth is temporary. God’s love is everlasting and lights the way to life with Him.
As I was sitting in prayer stumbling through trying to articulate the many thoughts our chapter brought to mind, I heard a simple birdsong even amidst the noise of the street with cars impatiently waiting to drop off kids to school. I couldn’t help but wonder why didn’t Solomon with all of the wisdom given by God stay faithful to the very God who blessed him? Why couldn’t he have kept a heart for God? And God’s words to me…Come to me with a heart longing for Home. I Am your Home. All of the wisdom of the world can’t compare to the heart-love I knew as a child loved by God. My heart remembers! I have never lost my love for simple, beautiful things…birdsong, light softly touching and illuminating, flowers in all their breathtaking beauty, butterflies flitting so silently, love of family delighting to be together at their very core.
A simple, beautiful truth? God is our Home. We may have turned away from Him for however long that lasts but He is here with us always. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4.
Your heart knows the way Home. Our hearts long for love and that longing leads us to our source of everlasting Love. His Love lights the way to our Home in Him.
