Do You Want More?

The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:10-11.

I can’t help but think about the problems of this world that loom so large – floods killing thousands, earthquakes ravaging whole villages, disease and sickness touching ourselves and those we love, strikes affecting millions of families economically, poverty, soul-blinding ignorance of God. If that was the only reality, what would be the point?

Do you want more? In the midst of all of this, do you long for more?

In our chapter, 2 Chronicles 5, the temple is completed and now Solomon and the elders and priests bring the ark of the Lord’s covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim. v. 7. And I love what happens next…Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God. v. 13-14. Can you imagine?

The Most Holy Place…in personal covenant with God our Sovereign Lord and Creator of all that is.

My daughter once lamented that we don’t see miracles as they did in Old Testament times. The greater miracle to me is that we can experience God’s Presence as He leads us in a closer walk with Him. It’s personal.

The problems of this world will still be there. Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:27-31.

How? An amazing thing happens to us when we give our worries and concerns to God. We remember He is Sovereign. Our hope is in our Sovereign Lord who is Good and whose Love endures forever.

In acknowledging His Sovereignty, we acknowledge our need. I am not the ruler of this world. Only our Creator God can intervene for the good for everyone. Our strength is renewed when we release burdens we cannot solve and trust them to the One who will in His perfect, loving timing. When we trust our God – Father, Son, Spirit – we enter into a covenant relationship that is the more our hearts long for. God already is in that relationship! God is relationship. Do you want more? Take His hand and begin a walk with Him you will never regret. How? Ask. He already knows what you need and what you need most in this life is relationship with Him. Talk. Share your heart. Listen. Feel the warmth of His love surround you. He came for you. He’s here for you. Always.
