What Would You Ask of God?

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Ephesians 6:18.

Our next book, 2 Chronicles, was written approximately 430 B.C. Judah had fallen in 586 B.C. In the notes at the beginning of this book: Key Verse: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (7:14).

The first chapter of this book begins with Solomon. What did Solomon ask of God? Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours? v. 10.

I wasn’t tasked with being a king or building a temple for the Lord’s Name. My ask of God is a closer walk with Him. He is my life. I know that I will spend eternity with Him. I want to know Him and listen to His voice speaking wisdom that is His.

Our small congregation is undergoing changes that are reflected in congregations around the world. We are older and smaller in number but we are faithful! More and more I am realizing that Jesus is the Head of His Church. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. Ephesians 1:22-23.

When we call out to Him to lead us and listen for His voice guiding us we know we are on firm ground. When we draw near to God we share in the faith of those who went before. What would God speak to our small congregation…to your church, to your synagogue, to your mosque, to your chapel, to your heart?

We may not have asked for this but God knows what we need. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:4-10.
