Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Psalm 62:1.
This morning in our Friday morning prayer group on Zoom, we talked about rest. The statement – to honor God and my human limitations through restful rhythms resonated with me. And again…rest can be a spiritual act – a truly human act of submission to and dependence on God who watches over all things as we rest. I thought about that in a different way this morning. All of the turmoil and hardship and worry we experience does not come from God. Can we sit with that and appreciate it?
And in our chapter, 1 Chronicles 28, this from David to his son, Solomon: “And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you. v. 9. And the rest of that verse…the opposite…but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. God never rejects us, we reject Him and wonder why we are caught up in the swirl of confusion and plaguing problems we and others choose over and over.
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20.
This morning sharing prayers for loved ones and for one another, and then in my own prayer time after reading God’s word, He reminded me to let go of the burdens of this world that the world chases after; give every burden to Him, pray always and then let go. Trust His love and His working. Why? Because our hearts and minds desperately need His rest and restoration. He is our sanctuary of peace in this turbulent world of ours. The world chases blindly and is spent on what is not. Choose what is real – God’s love. He is here and His peace soothes our worried minds and gives rest. Then play! Spend time with God and with loved ones in play and fellowship and be restored to joy that lasts.
David knew he was never alone and he shared that truth with Solomon. We can know that too. We can trust ourselves and our loved ones into His care and know He is working for good. That changes our perspective. We have limitations that can help us realize our need for God to help us and those we love. When I pray for family and friends I am going to the Creator of all that is and asking for His love to guide me and them in His wisdom. He searches every heart…He knows every need and nothing is wasted.
As you turn to God you experience a longing to be closer to Him because He is our Home. Rest in His love and find restoration for your soul. He’s here. Always. His love is your true rest that your heart longs for.
