Men Make Plans

I couldn’t help but be struck by the first sentence in our chapter: In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war…1 Chronicles 20:1. The plans of men throughout time.

Think of all the plans we make both short and long-term. Just as in our chapter from so long ago, war strategies are being planned and carried out right now between two nations. What about more personal plans of ours? A new job, a cruise vacation, the arrival of a new baby, moving across the country, end of life decisions, what to plan for dinner tonight?

And then reading The Chosen 40 Days With Jesus Book Three Day 8 Love Trusts: (Love) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:7. This daily devotional is about Elizabeth and Mary. God’s very special plan involved these two very different women. His calling to them? To give birth to the New Covenant plan that would restore the hope for all humanity. Literally give birth. Elizabeth in her very old age to John the Baptist who would prepare the way for the Messiah. Mary to give birth to the very Son of God.

In the midst of the plans of men then, God had a plan. How about today? One thing God is leading me to understand is that as I follow Him, He is my protector and provider. He leads me along paths of His righteousness and restores my soul in need of His peace. I don’t have to be afraid of any darkness in any valley however deep because He is with me always. And the destination we walk toward together? Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23. The good plan of our loving God for all mankind.

The Lord is my Shepherd and it’s His voice I long to hear reminding me I am His and He will never leave me, ever. Men make plans apart from God and people suffer. God restores hope. Thank You, Lord, for so great and enduring a Love. Thank You for Your eternal plans.
