Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:1-3.
In this chapter, 1 Chronicles 17, never forget that this was written for a people who have returned from exile in Babylon. They have forgotten so much about God and this is reminding them who they are and Whose they are. David is but a memory lost in time.
And God is telling David what and Who will come after him; descended from his line because of his love and faith for God. I declare that the Lord will build a house for you…He is the one who will build a house for me…I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever. v. 10, 12, 14. David wanted to build a cedar house for the ark…for God. God wants so much more! He is preparing a place for each of us!
Can you imagine receiving that news from God’s prophet Nathan? David had to sit with God for awhile and think. And then the words we all will come to when we grasp how immense is God’s love for us…Who am I? v. 16.
Who are we? We are loved by our Creator God who is Love. He is the wellspring, root and vine of our being in His love and it is wonderful! Rejoice to be in His love! We can’t do this by ourselves, people…we need Him to guide us. No one else can…no one else is worthy…no one else knows Love as our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit.
How can I say that? Can we sit for a bit and consider – can we solve the problems of this world right now and in the age of every human before and after us? He is the One who can. My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working. John 5:17. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5.
How does all of that connect? The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14. He is the One who knows the Way and it is not our way repeated over and over and over. When you grow weary of doing things your way with the same result repeated over and over and over…remember as the exiles from Babylon were reminded…The Lord will build a house for you…to be where He is. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. Thank You, Lord, for so great a love! Help us to walk in Your love for us always.
