Trust God’s Love

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31.

This is an amazing chapter, 1 Chronicles 12. It describes the mighty men who gathered to David to fight with him. They were brave warriors, ready for battle and able to handle the shield and spear. Their faces were the faces of lions, and they were as swift as gazelles in the mountains. v. 8. Then the Spirit came on Amasai, chief of the Thirty, and he said: “We are yours, David! We are with you, son of Jesse! Success, success to you, and success to those who help you, for your God will help you.” v. 18. And it goes on to list the numbers of men from every tribe armed for battle to turn Saul’s kingdom over to him, as the Lord had said. v. 23. They know who David is. They remember how David defeated the giant Goliath. David knew Who defeated Goliath and it wasn’t David. David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:45-47.

It is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves…for the battle is the Lord’s.

And now, we come to the best part. All these were fighting men who volunteered to serve in the ranks. They came to Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel. All the rest of the Israelites were also of one mind to make David king. The men spent three days there with David, eating and drinking, for their families had supplied provisions for them. Also, their neighbors from as far away as Issachar, Zebulun and Naphtali came bringing food on donkeys, camels, mules and oxen. There were plentiful supplies of flour, fig cakes, raisin cakes, wine, olive oil, cattle and sheep, for there was joy in Israel. v. 38-40.

David was around 15 when Samuel first anointed him to be king. He was 30 years old at this time and he reigned 40 years over all Israel. He loved God. Deeply. His time on this earth ended but what an impact he made!

One day we will all of us come together to celebrate the return of the King. Can you imagine? The whole world? Not just for one nation for 40 years but for all nations for all eternity. Jesus gave us the blueprint for that time. Matthew Chapters 5-7…the Sermon on the Mount.

David was not perfect but he loved God deeply. Jesus, God with us, is perfect in every way and He loves us all deeply. God with us…Father, Son, Spirit…love us. As we walk with Him we learn an astounding truth. We can trust His love because He is love and His love is eternal and for our good. Can you use more Good in this world we live in now? How about Good for everyone? Thank You, Lord, for so great a love! From the beginning and to all eternity….Love without end. Trust His love. He’s here. Always.
