God Himself Is Our Provision

To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 2 Peter 1:1-2.

We were so blessed this morning in our Friday Morning Prayer Group to be together talking and sharing with one another our love for our God who provides everything we need – Him. We read the Passion Translation of the 23rd Psalm:

Yahweh is my best friend and my shepherd. I always have more than enough. He offers a resting place for me in his luxurious love. His tracks take me to an oasis of peace near the quiet brook of bliss. That’s where he restores and revives my life. He opens before me the right path and leads me along in his footsteps of righteousness so that I can bring honor to his name. Even when your path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness, fear will never conquer me, for you already have! Your authority is my strength and my peace. The comfort of your love takes away my fear. I’ll never be lonely, for you are near. You become my delicious feast even when my enemies dare to fight. You anoint me with the fragrance of your Holy Spirit; you give me all I can drink of you until my cup overflows. So why would I fear the future? Only goodness and tender love pursue me all the days of my life. Then afterward, when my life is through, I’ll return to your glorious presence to be forever with you!

Our chapter, 2 Chronicles 10, is about David who wrote that wonderful psalm of love for God. It describes the chiefs of David’s mighty warriors. Exceptional men all. 3 of them risked their lives in the Philistine encampment just to bring David a drink of water that he longed for. Recognizing their risk for him, he refused to drink it and instead poured it out as an offering to the Lord. And the Lord was right there with them! Can we begin to grasp the closeness of God?

Do we consider the mighty exceptional love we have in God? Do we come together to share with one another that love and blessing? These men were bonded to David in a way only fighting men will ever understand and experience. Through the knowledge of God gained from the experience of His love for us, we are bonded to Him and to one another and it is good! In Him we are Home always.

He leads me along in his footsteps…even when his path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness…can we appreciate that closeness?

The mighty men were loyal to David. David was loyal to them. That loyalty and love for David began with God. God was David’s best friend and shepherd. David was a mighty warrior and he loved God. I love what it said in the notes below: (David’s power increased as a direct result of his consistent trust in God. In contrast, Saul’s power decreased because he wanted all the credit for himself and ignored God.) To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

What provision do you need? More than anything else? God. He’s here. Always.
