But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. Hebrews 3:6.
I confess reading this chapter, 2 Kings 10, put my heart in deep distress which I took to God in prayer….I almost want to skip past Kings and Chronicles. Choose love. Remember always God’s love and choose Him.
Jehu carried out the prophecy that not one of Ahab’s male descendants would survive and in his zeal, Jehu ensured a massacre. The heads of 70 sons of Ahab were placed in 2 baskets at the city gates; everyone in Jezreel associated with Ahab was killed. v. 1-11. Then the Lord said to Hosea, “Call him Jezreel, because I will soon punish the house of Jehu for the massacre at Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of Israel. Hosea 1:4. The priests of Baal were also killed and the temple to Baal destroyed. The 2 golden calves were not destroyed in Israel. v. 18-28.
I read about these events and it’s not a leap to the days of every age where massacres and killings are carried out. Last night we watched on PBS about a country that was plunged in civil war in Africa and as they pointed out the first casualty is nature. Not only people but animals plundered for the money they can bring to finance more arms. The female elephants are beginning to not grow tusks which lead to offspring who are tuskless. No small thing. Our violence affects everything.
Where do I go when my heart aches? I go to God. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:3, 5.
The Lord is my place of healing. He reminds me that these events and the people who lived through them, like the events of every age, are for a time; they won’t last forever. God’s love will heal all wounds. He is the only one who can. For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. Psalm 48:14. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. Revelation 21:4.
The old order, what we are living now and all have lived is passing away. How could it not? Our place of healing is God’s love. When our hearts are hurting we can turn to Him for understanding and for help. He is good and His love endures forever. In showing us what is good our hearts find hope. Do you long for good? For hope? For understanding? Choose Love. One day we will all of us be together with Him who loves us. We will have nothing to fear from the old order. We will be able to begin to learn and grow together in His love for us, for all of us. He’s here. Always. Our place of healing.
