Could This Happen?

Isn’t that the crux of everything we wonder about God? Can what He says truly happen and be?

In 2 Kings 7 Elisha tells the king of Israel Hear the word of the Lord. v. 1. They have been surrounded by the Aramean army in a siege that has left the city of Samaria without food and people are desperate. He is talking with the king and the officer supporting the king as the king leans on his arm. This time tomorrow there will be flour and barley at the gate of Samaria. And what does the officer ask? “Look, even if the Lord should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?” v. 2. Not only does the Lord know this will happen, He also knows this officer will not eat any of it. Open the floodgates of heaven…could this happen?

During the night the Aramean army heard the sound of chariots and horses and fled their camp leaving everything behind. How was it discovered? By 4 men with leprosy who went into the camp hoping either for help or the end to their lives lived with leprosy. v. 3-11. The king sends men to follow and see what has happened and they find along the way all the discarded clothing and equipment the army left in their haste to get away. Just as the Lord said, So a seah of the finest flour sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley sold for a shekel. v. 1,16. And the officer who doubted? He was trampled at the gates by the people desperate to reach food. v. 17.

An amazing thing happens when you look for God. When you ask to draw near to Him a journey begins. You begin to realize God is faithful. You open yourself to reading His word and learning about Him and His love for us. You seek and you find God. Peace only He can bring begins to fill your heart and soul. How can this be? Even if the Lord should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen? You will see it with your own eyes. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelation 3:19-20.

I’m trying to understand scripture verses about hell. Hell is a difficult thing to understand. I bring it to Him and ask His help to understand. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. I stand at the door and knock. A good starting point for me. The Creator of all things will guide me and you and He will correct and strengthen our understanding of Him. I trust Him and in that trust with Him, He is showing me, Yes! The floodgates of heaven will open and this will happen. All that He has promised in His great love. We can read examples of that happening throughout scripture. The question remains? Can what He says truly happen and be? Who will you believe? Where will you put your trust? Yourself? That’s a good starting point, too. As soon as you experience something you have absolutely no control over, ask His help. He’s here. Always. I don’t fear His discipline or His rebuke. The other morning, I was pouring my first cup of coffee for the day and my mind as usual was whirling away from one thought to another. I confess sometimes I am not happy with my husband. No fault of his. As a thought that recurs popped into my head, I heard a gentle voice…that’s an accusation. That stopped my thought. I don’t want to be an accuser. Discipline and rebuke in great love for my good. When you walk with God you realize He loves for your good, not for your hurt. Trust Him. Trust His love for you. Thank You Lord!
