Our Relationship With the Lord

Do you want a relationship with God? Do you want a Savior who knows you? Do you want Him to draw near to you? Do you long to draw near to Him? Ask. Do you remember having a best friend and you couldn’t wait to talk to them because you had a connection that was special? You got there together with long talks. You shared your heart, listened to their heart and it was good. Imagine that closeness with our Creator God who will never leave you and knows you intimately from before you were born.

I thought about that this morning when reading 1 Kings 10:1: When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord, she came to test Solomon with hard questions.

Don’t we have hard questions for the Lord? Does our relationship with Him allow us to listen?

The rest of the chapter describes the opulence and wealth of Solomon; the splendor of his palace and surroundings. He had everything anyone could dream of if they dream of wealth. But you know what? I wouldn’t trade one moment of my time with God in the morning learning from Him, praying in conversation with Him, listening to His thoughts for me. I know His love and His Presence and it is more precious than any gold, more beautiful than any building no matter how magnificent. I have seen in museums the gold and opulence that past civilizations have enjoyed for the very few so privileged. That’s where they belong. In a museum. A visual record of civilizations in their prime that are no more.

And what of us? What can our treasure be? Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3. Life that will not fade away into relics in a museum but life with our Creator God who is living and who is Love and who is eternal. And the best thing? He wants a relationship with you. He wants you to know Him. Sometimes I picture everything in this world falling away like so many dusty civilizations that have come before…and what remains? Our loving Creator God waiting for you and me. Can you imagine that? I can and tears come to my eyes and my heart is filled with amazed joy and peace. He will never leave us nor forsake us.
