What Is Our Good Plan?

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11.

Do you ever think about your plans for your life? Our life is more than where we work, study, live. Our life is so much more. Do you ever consider that you are important to God? Your life matters.

In 2 Samuel 17 two plans are presented to Absalom. Ahithophel proposed Absalom choose 12,000 men to go immediately to pursue David. He and his men have been traveling to get where they are going and are tired. “I would strike down only the king and bring all the people back to you. The death of the man you seek will mean the return of all; all the people will be unharmed.” v. 2-3. The death of the man you seek…David is Absalom’s father! The plan seemed good.

Absalom then asked Hushai, David’s confidant, and he proposed gathering all Israel with Absalom himself leading them into battle so neither he nor any of his men will be left alive. v. 11-13. Absalom chose the advice of Hushai. For the Lord had determined to frustrate the good advice of Ahithophel in order to bring disaster on Absalom. v. 14. As a result, Ahithophel killed himself. Being an advisor to a king, especially an unstable one, was dangerous.

Hushai sends men to warn David and he and his men cross the Jordan.

I keep thinking about plans. Men make plans and events unfold. We make plans daily and work toward achieving them. But what about our plans for life? What is our good plan for our life?

God has a plan. I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. John 17:4-5.

Before the world began…plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. There is a future prepared by God for us and He wants us to live today fully. In this life we are learning and growing constantly. We have been given life by the Creator of all life and He wants us to make it a good one. How do we live into that good life? Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3.

A good plan for our life eternal with our God who loves us and wants abundant, full life for us with Him. Our life…
