What Is Just and Right

Do you long for what is just and right? Could you define what that is and include everyone? God can. God does.

In 2 Samuel 8 David has subdued all the nations surrounding Israel and so completed the task Joshua had begun so many centuries before. David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people. v. 15.

This morning in prayer God reminded me to entrust all my worries to Him. He told me there are gifts in each day; gather them close and rejoice. He reminded me He speaks to me in a language we know which is different from the way He speaks to you and that is good because we each of us have a lifetime of experience to draw upon and it’s unique to us and shared with Him who is with us always. Do you ever consider that when you find joy in something in your day, He rejoices with you? How could He not? He created everything that is.

I think about the nations David subdued in his day; I think about the nations and people today that do not know God. I am so grateful for the opportunities we have to pursue and seek God and the moments He speaks to each one of us individually if we would open our hearts to receive His love and guidance. He speaks to us in our shared language of individual lifetimes of experiences, hopes, dreams, disappointments, anguish, sorrow, yearning.

What is my definition of what is just and right? God’s Kingdom. God’s love. God’s wisdom guiding us away from hurt to life lived abundantly with Him and each other.

David couldn’t provide that…only God can. But he chose to seek God and especially to seek Him when he failed and sinned against God. David experienced God’s love and forgiveness throughout his life on this Earth. What a difference God’s love makes in our lives joined with Him, seeking Him, learning from Him.

The Philistines, the Moabites, the Arameans of Damascus, will one day be able to experience God’s love and teaching. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. 1 Corinthians 15:19. This life does not have what is just and right for all people. That’s why Jesus taught his disciples, his students, to pray for God’s kingdom and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-13. The Lord’s Prayer. That’s His prayer for us and for all people in His great love for all of us.

David subdued the nations surrounding Israel in his time on this Earth so Israel could live in peace that didn’t last. Almighty God will free all people to live abundantly and worship Him in His truth, his justice and mercy, His love that speaks always to every single one of us in words we know and understand. Our hearts will know Him and trust Him to lead us faithfully. God speed that day for every one of us!
