Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Psalm 43:3.
I love the above passage in Psalm 43 because it reminds me that God’s truth is the light that dispels darkness. God is light and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5. God spoke and there was light, Genesis 1:3. In him was life and that life was the light of all mankind. John 1:4. I love those verses of hope.
The light of all mankind. Like a single candle flame, our eyes are drawn to that light because of the darkness that surrounds it. We are drawn to love just as surely as to that small flame. Let your light and truth guide me. Guide me to You.
In 1 Samuel 28, we find Saul with all Israel camped and the Philistine army also camped; and when Saul saw the Philistine army he was filled with terror. When he inquired of the Lord he received no answer so he turned to a medium for help, v. 4-22. Did Saul give time to listen for God’s answer? It’s difficult when you’re in the midst of fear to trust that God hears your plea for help. You can feel so alone. That’s when I bring a favorite scripture to mind or even just, please help me. The Lord is My Shepherd follows quickly and I begin to feel calm and His peace reminds me He is near. I don’t rush when I’m with God. He’s teaching me that.
Saul didn’t find peace when he went to the medium for answers. How could he? I wonder how his army felt when he left them to go to the medium or when he returned so shaken. No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. Psalm 33:16-17. One day Saul will know the love and the peace that only comes from God. God will guide him.
We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you. Psalm 33:20-22.
I love having God guide me to a closer relationship with Him. He is teaching me patience because I have much to learn and it takes time. What I’m learning is how much He loves me. Simple and profound truth. I can go from there with Him and if I forget in my rush to self-judging, He reminds me. I love you. I’m here for you. This is where He dwells. In hearts longing for Him. It doesn’t take much, just all that you are realizing how much you need Him. Please, help me. Let Your light and truth and love enfold and guide me because that’s where You are and where I want to be. I pray that for you.
