What happens when we allow God to lead us? He loves us. One of the first things you will discover in your walk with God helping you is how much He loves you and His love will give you peace that can only be with Him. With His help we begin to love and understand something profound…But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Luke 6:35-36.

In 1 Samuel 24 we find David drawing on this truth of God. David knows God loves him and he lets God’s love flow through him to protect Saul even when Saul is seeking to kill David. David and his men are back inside a cave Saul has entered. David’s men think God has delivered Saul to David to kill him. David knows better. He cuts off a corner of Saul’s robe only.

When Saul leaves the cave unaware of what David has done, David shouts down to him to show him he spared his life. He prostrated himself with his face to the ground because Saul is God’s anointed and David loves God. v. 8. Can you imagine David’s posture and words and that impact upon both groups of fighting men? Saul’s response? When a man finds his enemy, does he let him get away unharmed? May the Lord reward you well for the way you treated me today. v. 19. Saul acknowledges that David will be the next king and asks him to spare his descendants. Fighting averted they all turn away.

That kind of love doesn’t come from us. It flows from our Creator God who IS love. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:16. Have you ever considered that God lives in you? Instead of a Temple made of bricks or stones, Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 1 Corinthians 3:16.

With God’s help I’m learning how to love and how to trust Him for all things. A burden is lifted. It isn’t my love or my faith only because I can only do so much on my own. The Creator God who made you and everything you love loves you deeply. Open your heart and let His love flow generously into you and flow out to others He loves. His love heals. It’s such a good day with Him helping you. He’s right here with you.
