Let Go

One of the hardest things for me is to let go. Let go of control and trust God. I don’t have the answers but He does. Answers take time and I am so impatient. I can fool myself into believing I know what is best. In that place I come face to face with my own arrogance. God is so patient with me and He tells me to let go. Be still. Trust Him. I’m trying, Lord! Help me! Help me let go and trust You for everything. Help me get out of Your way and let You lead me in Your wisdom and love.

In 1 Samuel 22 we come to the result of David meeting with the priest Ahimelek and of Ahimelek giving him aid and comfort. Saul finds out. He confronts Ahimelek and his whole family. Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, giving him bread and a sword and inquiring of God for him, so that he has rebelled against me and lies in wait for me, as he does today?” v. 13. Ahimelek asks Saul who of all his servants is as loyal as David? Saul refuses to listen. He orders his officials to kill the priests of the Lord. They refuse and so Doeg the Edomite carries out Saul’s order and 85 priests of the Lord as well as everyone and everything living in Nob is killed. Only one priest of the Lord survives and flees to David for help. David realizes Ahimelek is killed because he helped him and he protects Abiathar the priest.

David wasn’t lying in wait to kill Saul. Saul’s heart is so hardened against David he is willing to put to death priests of the Lord. There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 14:12.

God doesn’t desire killing. His desire has always been for us to turn to Him and trust Him. Saul never trusted God. How different would his life and his rule as king have been had He turned to God? How different today would the world be if we turned to God and trusted Him? Let go becomes a naive folly until we search our hearts and realize how little we understand of life. We know only this life steeped in violence through every age. God knows so much better. He knows the way that leads to peace and it begins and continues in our hearts and minds. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. Let go. We are safe in Him. He is the One who makes our paths straight.
