Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord. Psalm 89:15.
Last night we watched Nova on PBS about the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Incredible images that travel back to us from a million miles away. Can you imagine? Listening to the scientists from so many disciplines that worked together and are learning so much, I was struck by what one scientist said when she said one question they still have is how did the lights turn on? For over 106,000 years just darkness. Could it be the very beginning of Scripture put in context of our own small area of the Universe? In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, Let there be light,” and there was light. Genesis 1:1-3.
Joshua 12 recaps the kings that were defeated and the territories that now belong to Israel. Do they really? Did they ever? JWST is a million miles away doing the work as designed by scientists with minds capable of wonder, of exploring, of learning things my mind cannot comprehend. I’m so thankful for our Creator God who created minds capable of so much. I couldn’t help but ponder in prayer last night how excited scientists will be when after the resurrection they can ask God all the questions they want; they will understand so much more than me yet realize how much they didn’t understand. Why stop there? Imagine conversations between God and farmers, writers, mathematicians, engineers, teachers, children…the list is as vast as each human created by God. How humbling and joyful will that be?
I’m reading one chapter a day in the record we have of what God has done but it doesn’t begin and end there. However, as it is written: “ What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived “ (Isaiah 64:4), the things God has prepared for those who love him – these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10.
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord. In His Presence is love, warmth, light so beautiful it illuminates our need for Him. And He is here. Trust Him for all things because we really don’t know but He does.
