Listen you heavens, and I will speak; hear, you earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants. Deuteronomy 32:1-2.
So begins a song Moses gave to the people. Yesterday we had much needed rain and the skies were gray with clouds. This morning the smooth trunk of a tree was bathed in new golden light that filled my heart with joy; it fairly sparkled so beautiful was that pure light, like spun gold!
I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. v. 3-4.
It goes on to describe what the people do in their unfaithfulness and that got me thinking about the difference between us and God. Can you imagine God being unfaithful? Cruel? Mean spirited? Do we give thanks for all He does as our Provider? Do we blame Him when problems arise, when violence rears it’s never-ending head in never-ending wars and conflict? Do we turn away from God because we decide He’s unjust? Do we blame Him for our sins that lead to the problems we face?
When we ask God to come into our lives, a disconnect happens. We begin to see through God’s eyes. He leads us and teaches us and His wisdom is like dew falling on tender new plants and they grow and flourish. We begin to see the dryness of life without Him. Nothing is the same. We begin to trust. Not in ourselves but in Him. A burden of loneliness lifts. Trials are not undertaken alone. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8.
There is such peace in being with God. Trials will still come but they no longer undo us. We call out to Him for His strength to endure and grow in ways we never could all alone. It’s personal… you and God. We come into this world helpless and in need. When our time is done we exit alone and He will be there. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Psalm 34:4-7. A beautiful promise from our Lord whose works are perfect, and all his ways are just…a faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.
Let the pure light of His love for you bathe you in glorious, golden warmth and find His peace leading you tenderly. He will never lead you astray.
