In one of my devotionals this morning I read this verse: But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9. That was Paul speaking to the Church in Corinth. I stumbled over that verse and sat there for awhile saying it over and over. My grace is sufficient for you….my power is made perfect in weakness. As I kept thinking about those words, my brain felt like a barrier within me looking outward but not wanting to leave that confining space. Resistance. Why? Because satan wants me to believe the lie. Pride. Being sufficient in myself is my glory. Being weak is just wrong and needy and who can love that?
God reminded me where I am weak He is strong and that is not a condemnation. That is need. When I’m afraid to “confront” weakness in myself, He gently works with me – and as that barrier falls I see Him. I see His love leading me out of the darkness of confusion into the light of His love for me. I am weak. He is strong and His grace is sufficient. I’m not strong – God is and He is here for me.
Deuteronomy 18 in describing the Levitical priests of Moses’ day are describing you and me today. They shall have no inheritance among their fellow Israelites; the Lord is their inheritance, as he promised them. v. 2. The Lord our God is our Promised Land where there are no barriers or condemnation because He removes them and guides us in His great love. How can any physical inheritance compare with that?
Which is why God reminds us over and over to have nothing to do with occult practices. Satan erects barriers of doubt, fear, hate, confusion, lies…darkness so great it dulls the mind. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the Lord your God. v. 12-13. What did Jesus tell us about darkness? “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23. How great the darkness of lies that God does not love you.
When God helps me see barriers to His truth encasing me in darkness, as I struggle at times to understand, He works ever so gently with me. As the barriers come down I see Him. Not Him physically, I see the light of the truth of His love there before me and it is good. It is light. It’s so freeing.
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7.
The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. That is how we walk in the light with Him. In Him there is no darkness at all. That is truth. That is our inheritance lovingly provided by God who loves you and me. Do you want to walk in the light with Him? Take His hand. He’s here always loving you and He knows your need.
