Have you ever thought about what God has done for you in your life? Have there been incidents when you knew it wasn’t because of you that you were kept safe from harm? Have you ever prayed and that prayer was answered? Have you ever longed for help and felt His peace and love settle gently in your heart? Peace that calmed fears. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. Deuteronomy 7:9.
The Chapter goes on to describe all that God will do for them if they remain faithful to Him and not go after the gods the people serve in the land they will inherit. The practices in service to their gods is vile and God does not want them to intermingle worship of Him with vile practices. Why? God is Holy. But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him. v. 10. He knew the people worshiping with vile practices before lifeless gods would hate Him and destroy His people in their evil practices. God desires for us what is good and Holy. Have you considered what is good and Holy? Have you considered what good and Holy would look like in your own life? Do we see that in our world today?
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8. When we take refuge in God, we experience His hand at work in our hearts leading us to Him. When I asked God to help me know Him, He began a slow work in me. Looking back over the past 10 years I can appreciate the difference His love has made in me. The past 3 years has produced a hunger for more understanding. When our youngest granddaughter was a baby, she couldn’t snuggle close enough to us and pressed herself ever more tightly to us. That’s how I feel with God and His arms are there. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:4-8.
One of the greatest blessings in drawing nearer to God is the blessing of faith in Him. I don’t have to be afraid. I trust Him for everything and that trust has been growing slowly and surely because God is patient. He is faithful. He is love. He is Holy. His love is Holy and unlike anything the world can offer. How can we intermingle that Holy, good love with anything vile? I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:3-6.
Our confidence is in our Faithful God who will carry on His good work in us until the day Jesus returns and on into eternity. Can you imagine? Try.
