Hear, O Israel…Hear, O Beloved

This morning reading Scripture and my devotionals, how can I not be uplifted by God who loves us so deeply? Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Deuteronomy 6:4-6.

If you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15.

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. I John 4:9-12.

Beloved. His love perfected in us. I realized this morning that it is God in me that loves faithfully. His love is perfected in me and in you.

Just like a loving parent giving last minute instructions to their child before a journey God is instructing His people then and now and forever the most important truth we will ever know. God is love. Bind that truth to your heart. God loves you. You are the beloved. In Him only will you know love, peace, hope, joy.

Moses told the people: And if we are careful to obey all this law before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness. v. 25. All of God’s laws were to teach the people how to love God and love one another. We know the history of the people, we know the history of our own hearts and the days we live in. Do we love God? Do we love one another?

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.” Jeremiah 23:5-6.

I love reading that. Take it deep into your heart and soul. You are beloved by God.

We can’t love like that without Him. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13. The Lord Our Righteous Savior has already walked the path and He gives you His hand to lead the way.
