Moses is continuing to lay before the people all that has happened since Mount Sinai and their promise to be His people. He is helping them to see that God is Sovereign if they have hearts to see. Have you ever stopped to thank God for everything He is doing right now? We have no idea what He does every moment because our minds can’t conceive how vast and infinite God is. Moses left nothing out in his telling of God’s Sovereignty. He pleaded with God to let him go over and see the good land beyond the Jordan. What surprises me is that Moses still blamed the people. But because of you the Lord was angry with me and would not listen to me. “That is enough,” the Lord said. “Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.” v. 26.
God is Sovereign and He is doing a good work for all of His Creation. Do we trust Him? “But commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.” v. 28. God always has a plan and is always at work. We see here and now. God is eternity.
After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters – one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. Matthew 17:1-8.
God is Sovereign and we are each one of us in the process of learning. Can we not speak anymore about things too wonderful we cannot grasp and can we instead listen to Him?
Moses wasn’t the One leading the people; God was. Joshua wasn’t the person leading them to inherit the land; God was. Joshua needed encouragement from Moses and God is directing Moses to do just that. God was working. Moses still has a job the people needed him to do in faithfulness to God who is Sovereign. Moses obeys. Joshua and the people will be prepared.
Can we be faithful to God who is Sovereign? Trust Him to lead you. He’s here. Ask and He will teach you. It will be a journey with Him to places we cannot go without Him. Faith, hope, love. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. Listen.
