God’s Abundant Provision

How can I read Leviticus 2 and the descriptions of the Grain Offerings to God and not be aware of the overflowing offerings God gives so generously to us? Looking out my window I can watch the sun slowly lighten the sky bringing beautiful light, color and warmth; I can eat my bowl of Cheerios and realize the oats come from God’s abundant provision for us; I can drink my coffee so needed in the early morning, so appreciated for the aroma and taste and know it comes from coffee beans God so abundantly provides for us. I can soak in the warmth and love of God affirming His love for me in our sacred morning time. Even the awareness of these blessings comes from God so generously provided. How can I not turn to Him with a grateful and mindful heart rejoicing in so great a love?

“When anyone brings a grain offering to the Lord, their offering is to be of the finest flour. They are to pour olive oil on it, put incense on it and take it to Aaron’s sons the priests. The priest shall take a handful of the flour and oil, together with all the incense, and burn this as a memorial portion on the altar, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord. The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the food offerings presented to the Lord. v. 1-3. In giving their grain offerings to God in thanks for the grain that constituted a huge portion of their daily food, God provides right back for Aaron and his sons for their work for Him. And…it is a most holy part of the food offerings presented to the Lord. How that struck me. God provides so generously. We cannot out-give God!

No yeast is to be mixed in ever and Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings. v. 13. “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is not longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” Matthew 5:13.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:6-11.

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35.

God supplies everything so abundantly…even Himself. He is our life. He supplies the sunshine, the rain, the seeds of every plant…His love poured out and overflowing to us His creation dearly loved. Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. Even that, especially that…our righteousness…God provides through His abundant love. As you begin to eat a meal, take the time to give the offering of grateful thanks for His provision remembering that we are to be the salt offered to God, pleasing to Him. For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgement of God rather than burnt offerings. Hosea 6:6. Acknowledge Him. Give thanks for all that He provides that we could neither live without nor provide for ourselves. As you take an inventory of everything you love and need, rejoice that He graciously provides all. Then take His hand and share this day with Him. He’s here.
