Genesis 24 introduces us to the wonderful story of Rebekah and Isaac. First, we find Eliezer, Abraham’s senior servant and the one in charge of all he had v. 2. Can you imagine the blessing he had? We read about the faith of Abraham; Eliezer witnessed it firsthand. He witnessed the faithfulness of God. When Abraham tasked him with the mission to find a wife for his son, Isaac, Eliezer relied upon God to guide him. Abraham understood the importance of who his son would marry as the amazing promises of God would be through his offspring. Eliezer entered into a solemn vow with Abraham and God’s angel led him faithfully to Rebekah. Both men were led by faith and their faithful actions stand as witness to us who long to be close to God.
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2.
Faith. Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead – since he was about a hundred years old – and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness – for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Romans 4:18-25.
Faith in God is holy space. Hearts faithful to Him are what please God. We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. The account of Eliezer finding Rebekah is an account of faithful trust in God who led him unerringly to her. He walked in faith that he witnessed in Abraham. He was a good and faithful servant to Abraham. Jesus told the parable of the good and faithful servant in Matthew 25 v. 14-30. “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. v. 19 After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things: I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share in your masters happiness.”
Faith from our Father handed down and given in our hearts…not from ourselves…a gift of God. And with that gift, we will be welcomed home by our Father who will tell us well done good and faithful servant! We, too, can be fully persuaded that God has the power to do what he has promised. We have access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.
Eliezer was a good and faithful servant and Abraham entrusted him with finding Isaac’s wife as God would lead him. God supplies every need including our faith, a gift of the Holy Spirit. Faith God supplies. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-10. God prepared in advance the work Eliezer was tasked to do and Eliezer walked into that faithfully. I am sure Abraham welcomed him warmly and thanked him for completing the task God prepared for him in service to Abraham.
Take His hand. Begin your own walk of faith with Him leading you….enter into His love and joy.
