In The Beginning

As I start anew reading the Bible, God is right there. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2.

I’m learning so much in reading the Bible and I know that as I start anew at the beginning, what I have learned throughout it’s pages will be woven together. There is order and continuity in all God does. The same God who created all things is light and that light is life and that light is true. This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5.

There was never a time when God was not. There will never be a time when He isn’t. I find such comfort in that. There was a time when the Universe wasn’t. The Creator created. We are the created. God saw all that he had made, and that it was very good. v. 31. Some day I hope there will be a “time machine” or way for God to show us the beginning of the created. Can you imagine?

The best minds of science and engineering and math have worked together to build the James Wood telescope so we can get a further glimpse of what God created than we have ever seen before. He created us with minds capable of such a feat, with hearts longing for adventure and understanding. Can we grasp that He created the capability of our minds and hearts to seek? I am in awe.

So I take His hand as I read from the very beginning of His written word to us; those words inspired in the minds of humans just like us by the Spirit of God hovering and illuminating truths we would not be able to grasp without Him. Teach me, Lord, I long to see You in the pages of the book You inspired; to see you in the creation You created; to see You in hearts that long for Your truth…to feel Your Presence within my heart teaching me how much You love.
