Last night we watched the recorded Open Table Conference discussion of Revelation 14. How quickly I felt overwhelmed. I’m not a scholar. After we watched that we watched the Behind the Scenes extras of the 2nd Season of The Chosen. It highlighted several people who were going to take part in filming the thousands of people who came to hear Jesus speak the Sermon on the Mount. The Frozen Chosen! A badge of honor because the day they filmed was in February 2021 and it was the coldest weather Texas has seen. People flew in from all over to take part so they couldn’t postpone it for better weather. They didn’t mind! They were right where they wanted to be!
Each person had a different story, a different journey to nearness with God. Each one of us is so different and unique. Our lives formed by events, people, moments.
Have you ever thought about your life? Really thought. What do you believe about God? If Jesus walked up to you today and looked into your eyes would you recognize Him? What would you talk about? Would He be different from what you pictured He would be? If He was different what would you do?
I’m no scholar but I want to know Him. He is our life. This world pulls at us demanding our absolute attention and devotion. I’m discovering that when I slow down, unplug, and be still – that I find in that quietness a rhythm that leads me to Him. He leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Psalm 23:2-3.
It’s quiet sitting with Him and I begin to find not only Him but myself with Him. Lives change when God opens hearts. There are still challenges, struggles, pain. The difference is He is there with us. He always was and always will be but we didn’t know that before. It’s possible to walk and live and be completely blind to God. It’s possible to think we know Him when we don’t. Do you want to know Him? Ask. Seek. Be still. Wait. Quiet your thoughts and allow Him to speak to you. You don’t have to be a scholar or minister though you can learn a lot from them. You just need a heart yearning to be free in God’s love for you; burdens of guilt and pain lifted away. In His love there is peace. He knows our weaknesses, our sins and is quick to forgive them…He already has. Please never forget that…He already has forgiven you and me. With that awful fear taken away you can begin to walk with Him and learn from Him how much He loves you and every single person. I can’t begin to fathom that kind of deep love and that’s okay. I trust God who does. You know, those last 4 sentences I just typed were typed after I asked Him to help me because it felt incomplete but I wasn’t sure what I should say. He answered. He guides understanding. Let Him guide you.
