Do You Want To Know God?

In talking with people I love and care about I’ve listened to gently spoken doubts about God….I’m not sure I believe….how could Jesus be human if God can’t sin?…Also, in relation to the world we live in now the inability to listen to people…I don’t watch the news…I can’t believe anything they say…

I think about this world and the confusion and anger swirling. The noise is deafening! We live in a broken world in darkness that we can’t see for all the bright lights everywhere.

For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them. Matthew 13:15 (Isaiah 6:9,10). Jesus said the above and was quoting from Isaiah which was written around 700 B.C. Does it sound familiar today with us?

This morning in prayer worrying about this world He told me I needed to draw near to Him for rest only He can give. This world is not my burden. Come to Him in quiet repose and be. Bring my disquiet to Him. He told me to be with Him today…be open to Him today…live today…today is enough.

One of the things we are being led to understand is the blessing of participation with God. He’s not way up in the heavens though that’s where His throne is. He is here but we can’t see Him for all the noise and sound blasting us from every quarter. Every angry voice or thought within restricts our ability to hear His still, small voice that is quiet, healing, there.

The most helpful thing I am finding in my walk with God is to be still, be quiet for several minutes. When my thoughts start to rush in I gently think…be still. I open my heart to Him in prayer (conversation) and talk about what’s on my heart. I’m finding that to really understand what’s on my heart I, too, need quiet. Be still. In the quiet I’m able to hear Him. I write down His thoughts to me and read them throughout the day. If I don’t write down a thought because I’m afraid it’s me and not Him…He repeats it. Very often He gets to the heart of my need no matter how inadequately I state that need.

Do you want to know God? Read the Bible. Ask for understanding. Ask to be with Him. Allow Him to be with you. The noise, the lights, the confusion is clamoring for all of your attention. Step away. Be still. Find quiet and find Him. He’s there. As you take His hand and walk with Him in the quiet you feel His presence beside you. You feel His love. You feel His peace. You are gently reminded that He is in control and He loves you. You learn to trust Him one day at a time. Walk beside God in trust and faith and love. Live in His peace and let His love enfold you. You need rest only He can give so He can renew you. I love my walk beside Him and my prayer is that you find that too. The noise and lights clamoring for your attention will always be there ready to intrude.

In this day and age we can’t know who to believe. So don’t. Turn to God. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete. 1 John 1:1-4.
