I was reading this morning in Jesus Calling and this Scripture from Proverbs 4:11,12 gave comfort. I will instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble. From Hearing God: For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6.
As I often do when reading a suggested Scripture passage, I continued in Proverbs 4: The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. v. 18,19.
Like deep darkness…they do not know what makes them stumble. Do you ever get weary and stumble? You feel so tired and you just want rest. Rest emotionally, spiritually, physically? Sometimes we can’t see the light for the deep darkness. We face problems we can’t see solutions to; face old angers we keep encountering. When I brought that this morning in prayer, He told me to trust Him to work. Be still.
My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free from perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. v. 20-27.
Let your eyes look straight ahead…when I do that I keep my eyes on Him who teaches me with great tenderness and great truth. I trust God because He has never lied to me. People lie. Governments lie. God never lies. He tells us His truth and it stands for all eternity because it brings healing. Lies do not heal. I lie to myself and that’s why He tells me to guard my heart for everything I do flows from it.
When I’m weary…I go to Him. There I find rest and strength and renewal of hope.
