A Gift Most Wonderful

In taking God’s hand and walking with Him I am learning ever so gently to trust Him in all things. His calm love is my anchor.

Psalm 139: You have searched me, Lord and you know me.

Do you know anyone who knows you so intimately that there is nothing to hide, nothing to fear, nothing that is not loved?

You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.

Where can I go from your Spirit? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

In reading His Scripture I come to know His steadfast love. In being with Him in prayer I know I can give Him all of me – my worries, my hopes, my inadequacies, my adoration. In taking His hand as He leads me into His truth I find peace and love and knowing. He assures me He’s not looking for perfection and I struggle to believe Him even as I know it’s true. I know because I feel His love and I am not perfect and never will be.

He does call me to be holy. How can I do that? Imperfect as I am? But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (Leviticus 11:44,45) 1 Peter 1:15,16. In reading the commentary with that are these explanations: Holiness means being totally devoted or dedicated to God, set aside for his special use and set apart from sin and its influence….We cannot become holy on our own, but God gives us his Holy Spirit to help us obey and to give us power to overcome sin. Call on God’s power to free you from sin’s grip.

The most wonderful gift we will ever be given is the Holy Spirit assuring us of His love. As His love permeates our very being we begin to lift up our eyes from the darkness of doubt and see His love. He’s there and He never leaves us or forsakes us…never. We can’t be holy without Him. He alone is Holy. His hand is there and ready and able to help you on the most wonderful journey you will ever begin…the journey of encountering His love as you walk together. You lay your hand upon me…and lead me in the way everlasting.
