Last night my husband and I were watching the behind scenes discs of the making of The Lord of the Rings because New Zealand where it was filmed is so very beautiful and we hope to see it one day. My favorite part hands down was the part of the horses they used in the 2nd movie, The Two Towers. These horses were so very beautiful and inquisitive and had bonded so well with their handlers and the actors who rode them and at the end of the movie some had bought them to continue the close bond they had formed.
This morning reading Hebrews 11, the faith chapter, I was reminded of those beautiful animals when I read about Noah. By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith. In the commentary section at the bottom of the page it explained that Noah built that huge boat in the middle of dry land. Because he obeyed God in faith humans were saved through Noah and his family. All others perished. Because he obeyed horses were saved! Think of all the animals and creatures we see today and remember Noah obeyed God and they are here today for us to marvel over, love, bond with.
My favorite verse in reading of the faith of Abraham: For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. The reference verses for that are Hebrews 12:22 and Revelation 21:2, 14. But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly. And I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband….The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
In reading from the devotional Jesus Calling, 1 Timothy 6:13-16 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time – God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen. And this promise…James 4:8: Come near to God and he will come near to you.
In the confusion of our times we all have our own ideas of how to solve problems that are so complex and so big and deep that it’s difficult to find the way forward. How do I find my path to God? I read His word with His help. I ask Him for understanding. I read about the people of faith who went before and they become more real to me with God helping me. It feels like the world with it’s too complex problems is panning away to show this beautiful planet we all share in the darkness of space. Perspective. The people of faith then and now have problems they face that are complex but with God they can be faced.
In Chapter 2 of Revelation it continues beautifully…Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself with be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
All of this richness I read this morning in my Bible and the devotional. And then I prayed and he answered. Come to me for strength and courage and faith. No one comes to Me alone. I am there.
How do you and I find the path to God? Hand in hand with God who loves us and is already there. A small confession…I truly love horses but I am not a horse person. The very few times I have sat on one and told it to gettyup…they had my number and started eating and ignored me completely. I asked God this morning if I could have a spirit horse in His Kingdom. How cool would that be?
