Have you heard the expression the only thing we can count on in this world is death and taxes? That’s so true in this world. We all die once and taxes need to be paid.
Another truth is God’s love. God is love. 1 John 4:16.
The one great starting point in your walk with God, the one thing you can count on is that God is love. I think one of the difficulties in our believing that, in the midst of living and seeing all around us the way humans love or choose not to love, is our own lack of understanding. We love and are loved or not loved as imperfect humans. We can understand death and taxes but God’s love is harder to fully grasp.
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:10-12.
God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6.
We all know what it is to be loved by family and friends. We learn to love by loving others. We love as imperfect humans but we love. But if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. By loving each other, we learn from God who is love.
Hold onto that truth as surely as you hold onto the truth of death and taxes because God’s love is bigger than death and taxes. Let us love one another, for love comes from God.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:16. As we love our families, our friends, think about love and remember who is love. His love is so great that in His love you will find peace and hope and love…love that spills over to others and returns back to the author and perfecter of love to be generously shared anew.
