A Beautiful Ornament of Light

Do you ever read a passage in the Bible and picture in your mind something so beautiful that it adds to the meaning you are reading…that it brings you closer to God? I like to call those moments nudges.

This morning in the devotional Hearing God by Dallas Willard, I read…My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Proverbs 3:21-22.

In my mind I pictured a necklace of beautiful, soft, pure light around my neck. I could see myself in a beautiful garden surrounded by flowers so beautiful, greens so vibrant they heal troubled worries.

I know that God leads me and guides my heart in quiet moments with Him. I feel a certainty that is so hard to put into words. Then, the beautiful image of the necklace of pure, soft light enters my thoughts and I feel His presence and grace and love. This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7.

If we walk in the light, as he is in the light…

His word lights my path as surely as a beautiful ornament of light. He speaks of wisdom, of truth, of hope and how desperately we need His hope, His truth, His wisdom.

The passage in Proverbs continues…Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared. Proverbs 3:23-26.

He reminded me this morning in my quiet time with Him, that He is faithful. I am your hope, your truth, your guide and comforter when you’re afraid. Let Me be that for those you love. I am there too.

A wonderful ornament of light to illuminate what is true.
