When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:6-8 NKJV.

There is a sacred, spacious place our soul longs for and we find it when we are with our Creator God – Father, Son, Spirit. It’s the quiet, deep place of need, of rejoicing, of thanksgiving, of learning, of sharing, of growing in understanding of God’s active love for you. The writer of our psalm knew that place…Psalm 126: When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter; our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes, Lord, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out with weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.

When you encounter the Lord, you, too, can say, “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy!” I think it takes being brought to great need deep within our souls before we can see that what this present world offers and that we chase after, cannot bring us the understanding our souls long for. In this world we will experience sorrow, confusion, addictions that leave us shattered and broken, poverty of heart, mind and soul bent only on pleasures that leave us empty. But that’s not all there is, for our God is here. Love of family, friends, fellow sojourners in this life we live that we think we live apart from God, we experience because our God is love and we love because He first loves us. The Lord has done great things for us! Our firm foundation….there is no other. The world builds on shifting sand and we can feel how unstable it is. There is no bottom and if we only trust in the things of this world, we will keep falling. Only God is our firm foundation. And He is right here, always. Take His hand. Walk with Him, learn with Him. There is a whole world of understanding to be found in our God who loves us! He shows us what Love is and how to love Him and how to love one another. And that’s the beginning!
